EVE Online asteroid belt locations

EVE Online asteroid belt locations

In EVE Online, asteroid belts are a key resource for miners, providing various types of ore that can be mined and then sold or used in manufacturing processes. These belts are found throughout New Eden, from high-security space (highsec) to low-security space (lowsec), null-security space (nullsec), and wormhole space, each offering different risks and rewards. Here’s a guide on finding asteroid belt locations and what you might expect in each type of space:

High-Security Space (Highsec)

  • Location Characteristics: Highsec systems have a security status of 0.5 to 1.0. These are relatively safe areas where CONCORD (NPC police) will respond to unauthorized aggression, offering some protection to miners.
  • Ore Types: Highsec belts typically contain common ores like Veldspar, Scordite, Pyroxeres, and Plagioclase. While less valuable per unit than rarer ores, they are in constant demand for basic manufacturing.
  • Finding Belts: Every system in highsec features a number of asteroid belts that can be easily located right from your overview or by opening the system map.

Low-Security Space (Lowsec)

  • Location Characteristics: Lowsec systems have a security status between 0.1 and 0.4. CONCORD does not respond to aggression here, making these systems riskier for miners due to the threat of pirate attacks.
  • Ore Types: Lowsec belts offer a chance at more valuable ores like Jaspet, Hemorphite, and Hedbergite, in addition to the common types found in highsec.
  • Finding Belts: Like in highsec, asteroid belts in lowsec are visible in the overview and system map but expect competition and be prepared for PvP encounters.

Null-Security Space (Nullsec)

  • Location Characteristics: Nullsec systems have a security status of 0.0 or below. These are often controlled by player alliances and are hotspots for PvP. Mining here requires caution or the backing of a friendly alliance.
  • Ore Types: Nullsec belts can contain even rarer and more valuable ores like Arkonor, Bistot, Crokite, and unique ores specific to nullsec regions, offering significantly higher profits.
  • Finding Belts: Belts are listed in the overview and system map. It’s advisable to mine in systems controlled by your alliance or with their permission to minimize the risk of attacks.

Wormhole Space

  • Location Characteristics: Wormhole systems do not have a conventional security status and are not listed in the overview until discovered via scanning. They are isolated and can be very dangerous due to the lack of law enforcement and the presence of Sleepers (NPC enemies) that can attack miners.
  • Ore Types: Wormhole space can contain all types of ore, including the most valuable nullsec ores, depending on the class of the wormhole. The risk is significantly higher, but so are the potential rewards.
  • Finding Belts: Asteroid belts in wormhole space are found within anomalies that need to be scanned down using probes. This adds an extra step to the process but can yield highly lucrative mining opportunities.

Tips for Successful Mining Operations

  • Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings, especially in lowsec, nullsec, and wormhole space. Keep an eye on the local chat for unknown pilots and use the Directional Scanner to monitor for incoming ships.
  • Use Appropriate Ships: Different spaces and ores may require different ships, from frigates and barges to exhumers and even capital industrial ships. Choose your ship based on the risk level you’re willing to take and the value of ores you’re targeting.
  • Consider Fleet Operations: Mining in fleets with support ships for defense can increase your efficiency and safety, especially in more dangerous areas of space.

Mining in EVE Online offers a range of activities from relaxed solo ventures in highsec to high-risk, high-reward operations in the lawless frontiers of nullsec and wormhole space. Knowing where to find asteroid belts and what to expect can help you plan your mining operations for maximum profitability and excitement.
